Homework builds responsibility and reinforces concepts that are taught in class. Students will spend approximately 30 minutes Monday-Thursday on homework. To support the development of lifelong readers, it is recommended that students also read independently in addition to regular school reading. This homework plan is aligned with the Fremont Unified District Policy 6154. A detailed summary of the policy can be found here.
Expectations
Homework is due on a daily basis unless otherwise specified.
Students are responsible for completing and turning in homework on time. If your child has difficulty completing homework within the allotted time (exceeding 30 minutes), please let us know and we'll be happy to make adjustments.
Students are expected to do their best job when completing homework. They should always write their name on all of the assignments and use legible handwriting. Students should do the work assigned on their own and only to ask for help after they have given their best effort.
Encourage your child to track their unfinished classwork, as it may be sent home at times. This does not count as homework but rather shows that students sometimes need extra time to complete tasks when class time is not enough.
If your child is not feeling well, let him/her rest! Students will get the same number of days that they were absent to make up their assignments. If your child is going to be absent for an extended period of time, please contact us to make arrangements ahead of time.
Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for your child. Therefore, we ask parents to make homework a top priority by setting a daily homework time, providing necessary supplies and a quiet work environment, giving praise and emotional support, and checking completed homework and the student planner.
Support your Child at Home
Set up a quiet area for homework.
Homework should be done at a regular time each day, free from any distractions.
While it is important to foster independence, parents should provide guidance by talking about the assignment so the child can know what needs to be done. We highly encourage parents to review completed assignments together with your child.
Set a reasonable, routine bedtime.
Practice being responsible with both school-work and home related activities. Check with the teacher when an assignment, school policy, or classroom policy is not clear. Communication between the school and the parent is very important.
